St James Church

Mangotsfield is a Church of England School that welcomes families from all faiths and none. Christian values form the bedrock of our ethos as we strive to develop successful learners, confident and resilient individuals and responsible citizens. We use our lighthouse values to exemplify the core values, many of which are taught through Bible stories.

Collective worship is central to our school and takes place daily. It is broadly Christian in nature and provides an opportunity for expressing and promoting the ethos and values of the school. We come together as a school family on Mondays and Fridays for whole school collective worship and on other days the children share this time in their classes or as a Key Stage.

As a school, we have very strong links with St James Church. We work closely with Reverend Teresa Taylor who visits our school regularly and often leads collective worship. Our RE co-ordinator has also mapped out opportunities for each year group to visit the church during the academic year with specific focuses. We have enjoyed learning about some of the key Christian festivals during our visits this year, such as: the Easter experience and Christmas. In addition to this, we visit the church to share special celebrations with the wider community like our leavers’ service.
