About Us
Mangotsfield CofE Primary School is situated in the heart of Emersons Green, a new urban village development on the edge of Mangotsfield Village, where the school was originally situated. Mangotsfield Primary was founded in 1876, adjacent to St James Church and the school's relationship with St James remains as strong today, as it has been in the past.
As a Church of England School we endeavour to remain faithful to Christian values whilst welcoming pupils of many faiths and beliefs. We are committed to developing an understanding and appreciation of all religions, with the emphasis on celebrating commonality, rather than highlighting diversity.
Our school vision states our aim of
"Working together to be even better today than we were yesterday!"
Whilst we place a high value on academic performance at Mangotsfield Primary, we also strongly believe in the need to develop and nurture children's emotional intelligence, especially confidence and self-esteem. The emotional environment is as important as the physical environment in terms of effective learning, however the development of a ‘caring' community takes much more than good intentions, especially perhaps in the context of modern society.
Thus we have introduced a set of 12 shared values known as our ‘Learning Lighthouses'. These have been integrated into the Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme of study, to ensure that each Lighthouse* is explicitly taught as part of our school curriculum, and firmly embedded within our school culture.
At Mangotsfield Primary School we endeavour to ensure that children in our care achieve their full potential whilst enjoying their educational experience. We want the children to be excited about coming to school and help them to develop a lifelong love of learning which will enable them to grow into adulthood with a strong sense of self-worth and social conscience. In achieving these goals, we recognise the importance of home-school relationship. Whilst we are blessed at Mangotsfield Primary with highly professional, hard working and dedicated teachers, such high ideals cannot be effectively achieved without the full support and cooperation of the entire school community.
