Who are 'FoMPS?'
| Who are FoMPS? FoMPS stands for ‘Friends of Mangotsfield Primary School’. FoMPS is a registered charity and it is voluntary run by parents and teachers. What do FoMPS do? Our aim is to raise funds. In its time FoMPS has raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education experience and the school facilities. However FoMPS is about much more than simply fundraising. It exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school working towards a common goal. It is fun too! Just ask any of the committee members or helpers. How do we spend the money we raise? Following a fundraising event the money is banked straight away. It is at FoMPS committee meetings, that the decisions on how to spend the money are agreed. Usually the school will have a wish list of items they would like us to consider funding, sometimes as a direct result of the children asking for something. At other times it will be for resources to improve a particular area of the curriculum or school environment. FoMPS funds are spent on the ‘extras’ that are not provided by the school’s budget, thus making our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. FoMPS funds are not generally spent on improving the fabric of the school building as this is the responsibility of the school governing body. Our Constitution commits FoMPS to spending money on things that will benefit the children directly. How do I join FoMPS? You already have! all families are automatically members of FoMPS when their child joins the school. How can I get more involved? There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through FoMPS. Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you cannot come into school. There are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare eg. wrapping gifts, updating the website etc. Why don’t you join our contact list? Just send us an e’mail to join, you will be under no obligation to give any more time than you can spare, we will contact everyone on the list in advance of events to ascertain how you can help on each occasion – simple! And if you want to become even more involved you could attend committee meetings or become a Committee Member. We really couldn’t achieve what we do without your help. E’mail us at: |
