World War 2 Day
At the end of our history unit on World War 2, we held a special day to help children empathise with what life was like for a child during these difficult times. The day included:
- Experiencing what life was like as an evacuee
- Recognising that staying in a bomb shelter was not exciting
- Learning basic drill movements in case we had to join the Home Guard
- Celebrating victory on VE Day.
It was an amazing day! Some of the comments included:
"I never knew how difficult it was to march in time!"
"Staying safe in an air raid shelter was so boring. There are only so many songs you can sing!"
"It was great to dress up in character"
"When we were evacuated, I didn't know where we were going. When I saw other children being selected by the villagers, I was worried I was going to be left behind!"
Have a look at the pictures of our day.
